Champion of the Sun
When was the last time you watched the sunset? Was it accidental or did you plan for it? Did you watch it with someone else? If so, what did you talk about? Did you watch it alone? What was on your mind?
So many books, movies, poems, paintings, and more take inspiration from the beauty of nature, and there’s a reason for it: it provides an opportunity for any living being to relate to the experience. Plus, it’s an easy way to start writing if you’re feeling stuck.
If you can talk idly about the weather with a stranger for two minutes, you can probably write about it for a similar length of time.
I spent a whole summer watching sunsets over the lake with someone when I was a teenager. I don’t talk to them anymore, but the Main Character Energy I felt when the sky turned from blue to pink to purple to black was real.
For inspiration, read Ray Bradbury’s “All in a Summer Day.”
